We present results from the analysis of deep ROSAT HRI and PSPC observations of the spiral galaxy M81. The inferred total (0.5–2 keV band) luminosity of M81 is ∼ 3×10 ergs s, excluding the contribution from identified interlopers found within the D25 ellipse. The nucleus of the galaxy alone accounts for about 65% of this luminosity. The rest is due to 26 other X-ray sources (contributing ∼ 10%)...
متن کاملSecondary antiprotons in cosmic rays
High energy collisions of cosmic ray (CR) nuclei with interstellar gas are believed to be the mechanism producing the majority of CR antiprotons. The distinguishing spectral shape with a maximum at 2 GeV and a sharp decrease towards lower energies makes antiprotons a unique probe of the models of particle propagation in the Galaxy and modulation in the heliosphere. Besides, accurate calculation...
متن کاملSpectra of black-hole binaries in the low/hard state: from radio to X-rays
We propose a jet model for the low/hard state of Galactic black-hole X-ray sources that can explain the energy spectra from radio to X-rays. The model assumes that i) there is a magnetic field along the axis of the jet; ii) the electron density in the jet drops inversely proportional to distance; and iii) the electrons in the jet follow a power law distribution function. We have performed Monte...
متن کاملInfrared Absorption Spectra, X-rays Diffraction Studies and Thermal Behavior of Cerium and Thorium Laurate
IR, X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis were used to illustrate the structure of cerium and thorium laurate in solid state. IR results reveal that the fatty acid exists with dimeric structure through intermolecular hydrogen bonding and cerium and thorium laurate were ionic in nature. The X-Ray diffraction measurements confirm that these soaps posses double layer structure with long spacing. ...
